FAQs

Q. Can't I just practice with a friend for free? What's the difference?

A. You could and you should.  If two friends are disciplined they can duplicate some aspects of our service.  All of us have seen two friends on the tennis court hitting without playing a match. It’s a great workout and helps with one’s strokes. But it tends not to be specific or methodical enough. Even if they are disciplined to focus on one or two aspects of each other’s games, the sharing would be equally divided.

Friends mostly get together to play a match – not work on drills. Coaches coach and distill techniques and tips. I will drill and practice for your sake. By paying for my service, it becomes more serious and important, and a bigger piece in your development than what you do with friends.

I think there is room for all three components – coaches, friends, and Tennis Partners.

Q. What are your hours?

A. I’m flexible. I expect to have bookings at all different times of the day including nights.

Q. Are there any minimums?

A. Minimum sessions are at least one hour.

Q. Where would we hit? Do you have a home court?

A. Getting the court is up to you – I come to you. I can make suggestions based on my knowledge of area courts. Of course, any court fees for me as a guest at your club would be paid by you. Needless to say, no sneaking me in where your club doesn’t allow it.

Q. Do you charge for traveling time or distance?

A. That depends. I am headquartered in East County. If we reserve a court in our area I shouldn’t have to charge for traveling time. But, if I have to go to another area I will charge for travel time.

My travel rate is $25 an hour to the court; $18 an hour for returning home. First 15 minutes of “to the court” is free if the session is at least 1.5 hours.

Q. I only play doubles. Do you offer a hitting service for doubles?

A. Excellent question. Doubles is a different game than singles and requires a different application of skills.

I would work with you and your partner. I hope to have the capacity soon to send out two hitting partners and will update the website when that happens.

Total charges would be the same as if you were one person. So, you can share the costs if you would like.

Q. What about sharing the cost with another singles player?

A. That’s a great idea. A 1.5 hour – 2 hour session with the cost being split by two people is a good workout. Each person will still get plenty of quality time.

Q. What should I tell my coach?

A. That is up to you really. You can tell him I will work with his recommendations. My job is to come alongside you and your coach as an added tool. You might even want him to write down two or three things you should work on with me.

Some coaches may be resistant to my service. In those cases, you might want to decide whether or not you want to tell him or her about my service. You are only committing to one session so you can try us out before telling your coach.

Q. I don't have a coach and don't want one. Can I still hire your service?

A. Of course. I can work on aspects of your game that you have identified as needing help or that I might identify.

While I have my own schedule of competitive play I am open for pick-up matches if that is what you are looking for.

Q. What about playing matches?

A. If you are willing to pay me for match play we are open.

One option is to mix practice and drilling with playing a set where I compete with you but will try to strengthen your game rather than simply competing to win.

For example: let’s say your volleys need work. I could during a game continually bring you to the net for volleys. But rather than trying to lob you or pass you at the net I could give you a forehand or backhand volley for you to hit. Or, let’s say you have a hard time with pushers. I would “play the pusher” giving you practice in responding to the tactic.
